What WHISPERLOOK collects, what it does not, and the choices you have.

What we collect

WHISPERLOOK has no accounts and no sign-in, so there is very little to collect. Here is all of it.

  • Server request logs. Like every website, our servers record basic details of each request: the address requested, the time, your IP address, and the browser information your device sends. We use IP addresses to limit how fast one connection can search and to prevent abuse. Logs are kept for operating and securing the service and are not used to build a profile of you.
  • The username or link you search. To keep the viewer fast, results for a searched username are held in a short-lived server cache. The cache is keyed by username, not by you, and it expires on its own within minutes. When you paste an Instagram link, we read only the username out of it. We never fetch the link.
  • Feedback you choose to send. The feedback form accepts a message and, optionally, an email address so we can reply. We keep what you send for as long as we need it to act on your feedback. Sending it is always your choice.

What we do not do

  • We do not have user accounts, and we never ask for your Instagram login.
  • We do not sell personal data.
  • We do not store your browsing or search history. Searched usernames live in a shared cache for minutes, not in a record of who searched what.
  • We do not fetch links you paste. We read the username and discard the rest.
  • We do not track which advertisements you click.

Advertising

WHISPERLOOK is paid for by advertising. Ads pay the bills. They don’t need to cover the screen.

When advertising is enabled, ads are served by Google AdSense. Google may set cookies or use similar identifiers to show and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted. Google’s explanation of how it uses information in advertising, along with its controls, is at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Where the law requires it and a consent tool is configured, you are shown that tool before personalized ads load, and you can change your mind at any time. See your privacy choices below.

Every ad on WHISPERLOOK is labeled as an advertisement and kept away from the search box and the viewer controls. We do not record which ads you click.

Analytics

We measure how WHISPERLOOK is used in aggregate: how many searches succeed or fail, which parts of the viewer are opened, whether the content provider is having trouble. This tells us where the service breaks and helps us keep it working.

When an analytics service is configured, these events are sent to it. The usernames you search are not included unless we deliberately configure that, and by default we do not. Analytics events never include the content you looked at.

Cookies and local storage

WHISPERLOOK sets no cookies of its own for the basic viewer. If a feature needs to remember a small setting, it is stored in your browser, stays on your device, and is not sent to us.

When advertising, a consent tool, or analytics are enabled, those services may set cookies or identifiers of their own, as described above. The consent tool, where configured, is where you control that.

Third-party content

The stories, posts, reels, highlights and profile photos you see on WHISPERLOOK are public Instagram content. They reach you through a content provider, an independent service that fetches publicly available material, and are shown as they come. WHISPERLOOK does not alter them and does not keep a library of them beyond the short-lived cache described above.

Depending on configuration, media loads either through WHISPERLOOK’s servers or directly from the host that serves it. In the second case, that host receives your browser’s request, including your IP address, the way any image or video on the web is loaded.

WHISPERLOOK is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta. Instagram’s own privacy policy governs what Instagram does. This page covers only WHISPERLOOK.

Children

WHISPERLOOK is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your privacy choices

The Privacy choices link in the footer opens the consent tool when one is configured. There you can allow or decline personalized advertising and change an earlier decision. If no consent tool is configured, that link brings you here instead, and the sections above describe the whole picture.

You can also limit ad personalization through Google’s own controls, linked in the advertising section, and through your browser’s cookie settings.

For anything else, including questions about what we hold or a request to delete feedback you sent, use the contact page.

Changes

We update this page when something about how WHISPERLOOK works changes. The date at the top tells you when that last happened. Material changes are noted here rather than buried.

Contact

Questions about privacy go through the contact page. Product feedback goes through the feedback form.
