What counts as a reel

A reel is a short vertical video posted to the reels tab. It is its own format, separate from a photo post and from a video that was shared to the main grid, and Instagram gives it a separate place on the profile.

That is why an account can look quiet on the posts tab and still be busy on reels. WHISPERLOOK keeps them apart for the same reason, so you are not hunting for video among photos.

Plays, likes and why they differ

Reels carry a play count as well as likes and comments, and the play number is usually far larger. A play is counted when the video starts, including when it autoplays as someone scrolls past, while a like takes a deliberate tap.

So a wide gap between plays and likes is ordinary rather than suspicious. It mostly reflects how many feeds the reel passed through.

Sound, captions and what carries over

Reels are made to be watched with sound, and the audio comes through here as posted. If a reel used a track from Instagram’s music library, that audio is part of the video file rather than something layered on at play time.

Text the creator burned into the video is visible because it is part of the picture. The caption sits below the video, as on the post itself. Interactive extras do not do anything here, since there is no account of yours attached to this site.
